About Masefield Community Garden
Since 2012 volunteers have converted a derelict site into an eco-friendly garden with raised beds, mixed borders, a forest garden (permaculture), an orchard and a wildlife pond. There is a clay oven, a polytunnel and two greenhouses. The greenhouses are made from recycled materials. The oldest is made from plastic bottles and a more recent addition is made of triple glazed polycarbonate sheeting which has been recycled from a dismantled conservatory.
At the far end of the garden is a children’s area which has a shelter, a wigwam, a mud kitchen, chime bars and a wooden horse. This area regularly hosts forest school activities, pre-school family groups and children’s holiday sessions.
There is no electricity or running water on site but there is a compost toilet for emergency use.
