About Mindrum House Garden
Mindrum House and adjacent Kirky Cottage Gardens, are opening together, giving a scale contrast between extensive and compact cottage gardens in the same context. There will be a plant stall at Kirky Cottage and Teas at Mindrum House, with parking at both gardens.
Both gardens have a wonderful combination of old fashioned roses, violas, hardy perennials, mature shrubs, trees, and gravel gardens. The limestone rock garden at Mindrum House boasts a range of ponds, waterfalls and runnels, and at its peak in summer, is surrounded by ferns, rambling roses and herbaceous borders.
Both Gardens are surrounded by an organic, regeneratively farmed mixed farm and incorporate wild, natural areas which attract a wide range of wildlife, large and small, ranging from dragonflies and kingfishers to otters, though the latter are sometimes shy!
Mindrum House has a woodland garden with mature scots pines, foxgloves and shuttlecock ferns, that follows the burn upstream and a River Garden with wildflowers, rocket and bluebells flanks the river downstream. We are also developing a stumpery, bog and permaculture gardens.
Kirky Garden, designed by Ginny Fairfax, is an incredible compact cottage garden which provides a profusion of scents, colours, textures and sounds which change through the seasons.
For our open day, Dogs are welcome at Mindrum Gardens, though due to the compact nature of Kirky Cottage, we can’t accommodate dogs here.
