About Moelfryn
A garden of a third an acre overlooking far reaching views towards the Betws Mountains, Amman Valley and the North Devon coast, Moelfryn offers a garden designed to take account of its difficult context on a typical Welsh hillside, surrounded by farmland. Inspired by a desire to be as self-sufficient as possible, aesthetically pleasing to the artists eye, organic, eco-friendly, repurposing, recycling and wildlife aware, providing pollinating plants for insects. The front garden is planted around a labyrinth heavily planted with herbs, strawberries, rhubarb and asparagus and surrounded by a four-season cottage garden border.
The drive leads to a welcoming courtyard and patio which both have seating and shelter along with pillar fruit trees, ornamentals areas and 50 mint varieties.
The main garden, reached by winding steps or a grassy slope, includes a deep shrub bank interspersed with many varieties of perennial geraniums (cranesbills) designed to create a tapestry effect of foliage and colour with year round interest, soft fruit areas and cages, poly tunnel for year round cropping, brassica tunnel, veg beds, hen house, arches for clematis, roses, wisterias, beans etc., a little wild wood area, mini annual and perennial wildflower meadow, ferns, ornamental beds with various hydrangeas, cold frames and potting shed, compost bins, water butts, wormery, hot bin, small wildlife pond, cranesbill stumpery and propagation areas, all linked by grassy and slate chipping paths. At every turn is something different to attract and inspire new and well-seasoned gardeners.
