About Monks Lantern
The garden was created from scratch and there is an interesting book containing the development of Monks Lantern from 1997. Starting from a completely blank screen the owners have dug, planted and moulded the garden into its current shape.
Seeds and cuttings collected from many Mediterranean holidays, including acacias and a selection of plants from the Canary Islands, sit next to orange trees in pots, and there is a collection of sedums, cacti and pomegranates, with summer annuals arranged on a sun terrace.
The pond, with its ornamental ducks, has wisteria growing attractively across the top suspended on wires to give both shade in a south facing garden and interest. At the very end of the garden is a variety of pines many also grown from seed. Last but not least, a picturesque aviary containing canaries makes for an enjoyable visit.
