Parson's Field

This community garden has stunning views across the village and to the Severn Valley beyond. Until November 2022 it was a ⅔ acre plot of inaccessible waste church land but a group of volunteers are turning it into a tranquil wildlife haven. They are developing a wildflower meadow, native woodland, an orchard, raised beds of soft fruit and a border of pollinator friendly herbs and shrubs.

About Parson's Field

This community garden is managed by a sub committee of St Cynon’s Church and the land is rented from the Church in Wales. It is cared for by a group of volunteers from Tregynon. The project has been strongly supported by the Montgomeryshire Wildlife Trust and has been generously funded by Wales Government through the Powys Nature Partnership.

A year and a half after planning began the garden was formally opened by Tia Catherine Jones, the Lord Lieutenant of Powys in July 2023. The school children have helped plant bulbs and hedging plants and designed elements of the information boards. Trees have been planted to acknowledge significant public events and local people have generously donated additional trees. It is well-equipped with tool shed, water butts and picnic benches and has a new willow arbour and information boards making it friendly to people as well as wildlife.
