About Primrose Gardens
This is a former walled kitchen garden until the early 1950s when it became a commercial enterprise until 2001 growing and selling vegetables direct to the local public. The owners have changed it beyond recognition using their own individual skills. This is a good example of how to create and continually develop a garden by using ones imagination and creaming ideas from other gardens. Richard and Daphne have no gardening qualifications other than years of hands-on experience. They like to try out different ideas some of which work and some that don’t. Over the past 20 years the garden has moved away from intensive vegetable production to a haven of flowers, shrubs, smaller trees and an ever-decreasing amount of grass! A large pond has been created on what is a sandy loam and now looks like it has been there for ever.
Richard has a family link with the garden since 1890 and can describe the changing face of the garden through the past 130 years. He also gives talks to local groups on the changing face of Primrose Garden with a power-point presentation.
This garden holds an interest for all gardeners having a diverse and changing perspective on all aspects of gardening from herbaceous borders to exhibition vegetables.
