About Springfield

Originally rough Fenland farmland, the garden has been transformed over many years into a calm, relaxing, romantic and productive garden. The 50 tree orchard is mainly apples with a few pears and plums. Several trees have mistletoe that we set. Our composting area grows vigorous pumpkins, butternuts and squash. Some of the more interesting trees are Swamp cypress with baby ‘knees’, Catalpa biganioides, Metasequoia (Dawn redwood) and a large fig. We collect as much rainwater as possible and have a pumping system to different areas of the garden with some use of solar powered automatic watering systems. Many structures and features are made from recycled materials.
