About The Alpine Garden Society
An inspirational alpine garden of around a quarter of an acre next to the office of the Alpine Garden Society in Wick. The AGS is a charity established to promote the growing, showing and conserving of alpine plants for and by charity members, alpine specialists and enthusiasts. The garden also acts as a showcase demonstrating the many ways to grow alpines to the wider gardening public. These wonderful small hardy plants are especially suited to smaller contemporary gardens and containers.
The garden has evolved over the last 20 years and comprises a wide range of alpines, most of which are easy to grow outside in gardens. There are also some unusual and rarer plants on show, including those that need cover from wet weather conditions and these are grown in the dedicated alpine house. The garden demonstrates a range of different areas where alpines can be grown. This includes rock and tufa, scree, a mediterranean style dry bed, shade, and open sunny areas, an easy alpine bed, and many planted pots and troughs.
Volunteers will be on hand on open days to provide more information, and planting demonstrations may also be available on some dates
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and home made cakes.
