About The Old Hall
The house is on the village street on its north side. To the south side, the house and garden extends south and west on four terraces going down to fields and woods with views of Catmose Vale and Burley on the Hill in the distance. To the west it is more enclosed.
The garden was originally created by Cyril Heber Percy in the 40s and 50s. He was an excellent plantsman and the mature trees and the layout of the terraces are thanks to him. We took over the garden in 1980s and have had help, originally, from John Codrington, a wonderful man who lived in the village of Hambleton. Later we sought the help of Neil Hewertson who was head gardener at Stowel Park. He has continued being involved and has taught us so much. He has made the garden interesting all year round. We continue to improve the garden and try not to create any more work!
Yearly, we plant interesting trees and shrubs and make an effort to keep the herbaceous borders going through the summer and autumn months.
