About The Old Priory
The 2 acre garden is in the NW part of our 16 acres, of which there are 2 acres of 250 year old woodland, 2 acres of 30 year old woodland and 10 acres of lightly grazed pasture. The N 8 acres are on a prehistoric sand dune, from which the land slopes onto the wetland of peat with a substrate of clay and some sand. This gives us the opportunity to grow a diverse range of plants.
There are several ponds in the wetland and a stream on the S border. We are towards the edge of about 500 acres of a mix of permanent pasture, woodlands, streams and ponds. The abundant wildlife is varied, so bring your binoculars! Common spotted orchids in pasture. We are self-sufficient in veg, eggs, meat, most fruit, logs, timber for furniture and compost.
