The Old Woollen Mill

Terry and Cheryl run a permaculture smallholding and would be delighted to show you about low-impact sustainable living. Do not expect manicured lawns; everything is allowed to flower and go to seed. At The Old Woollen Mill diversity is the name of the game, supporting a huge array of wildlife, butterflies, dragonflies, and 65 species of birds.

About The Old Woollen Mill

The Old Woollen Mill is surrounded by ‘green deserts’, overgrazed grassland dotted with sheep. In contrast, when you allow things to grow, all sorts of cool things start to happen, like flocks of bullfinches stripping the docks of seed. Blizzards of butterflies.
Cheryl and Terry can tell you about their health journey where health is inseparable from the symbiotic relationships that plants should have with the soil, and the impact this has on our gut biomes, and the devastating effects that ‘Big Ag’ has on all our lives and futures.
We carbon-negatively cook, heat our home and hot water while making Biochar. This when added to the soil, restores the biology, retains water for drought resilience, and permanently sequesters carbon. Biochar can be purchased. Cheryl invented the astoundingly simple ‘Go Anywhere’ compost toilet which can also be purchased.
Opportunities are available to sample produce in season.
