The Orchard

This is a new garden, planted in autumn 2023 after finishing a new build on site. We have soft, prairie planting in the front and a rambling, informal cottage garden around the back, with a cutting bed, soft fruit, vegetables and a small natural pond. Stunning views of the South Downs.

About The Orchard

My garden is a work in progress (aren’t they all)? The back was a dumping ground for everything I could get my hands on while a new house was being built on the site. This autumn I will be shifting things around to get a better balance. It’s full of my favourite cottage garden plants. And some I don’t like anymore!

The front was planted with a broad pallet of prairie plants, but 80 of them didn’t see it through the winter, while others romped away, so I’m hoping to adjust the balance and get the variety I was expecting for 2025!

We have native hedging around the garden. The drive is shingle, and once you are over that, there is hard landscaping which makes it easy to get through to the back, no gates.
