About The Thatched Cottage
Hidden behind the 16th century cottage lies a one and a half acre, sheltered south facing garden which “encourages exploration”. Close by the house is an Alitex green house which is used for propagation of plants for the garden.
The terrace is furnished with overflowing pots, a pond with a waterfall provides the sound of running water. Recently the old brick lined well was opened up and a pump 60ft down now provides wonderful clear water to irrigate the pots and borders, rather than using metered tap water. Borders bursting with colour surround the main lawn which then leads through clipped hollies into another area with a small greenhouse, raised vegetable beds, a rose bed and a pergola smothered with roses, clematis, honeysuckle and wisteria. A large fruit cage, smothered on the outside by a grapevine, is surrounded by a hornbeam hedge. There are several stunning specimen trees. More roses grow here and a wild flower area surrounds a restored gypsy caravan (complete with crystal ball and guard dog!!). Fully accessible by wheelchair after a short gravel drive.
Tables are under cover in the garden.
