Exciting contemporary Botanic Garden with collections of: Mediterranean flora set out in a large rock garden, threatened rare native plants, many unique to the Avon Gorge growing as a conservation resource. A large collection of useful plants includes a seasonal display of vegetables and two large herb collections, Western Herbs and Traditional Chinese Medicinal Herbs, (the most comprehensive collection in Europe). New Guangzhou Garden which won Chelsea Flower Show gold medal and coveted ‘best in show’ in 2021, now rebuilt and opened. A large sunken dell displays the evolution of plants on land in the form of a 500 million year old time line, while in the centre of the garden a large display illustrates the evolution of flowering plant families inferred from comparisons of their DNA sequences. A large pollination display is full of flower in summer with examples of key pollinators. Glasshouses are home to Amazon Waterlily, tropical fruit and exotic plants, orchids, carnivorous plants, cacti and a unique sacred lotus collection. Many of the 4500 species of plants are unique in the UK.
