About Wedgwood House
A mature medium sized garden (1/4 acre) surrounding a traditional Kent house (part of a larger C18th/19th manor house). There are several borders of differing styles, planted for successional interest. Grasses and roses are a feature and a wild area with a Hugel mound is especially lovely in Spring with witch hazel, primroses, snowdrops, ajuga and pulmonaria, followed by white hesperis and foxgloves. A large walled patio features a raised wall with roses, honeysuckle and hakonechloa grass. Numerous containers display plants of differing leaf colour, shape, texture and growth habit, providing all year interest and an ‘exotic’ feel.
Planting includes some more unusual species such as Baptisia australis, Indigofera, Albizia, Calycanthus, Cercis canadensis, Clerodendrum as well as the traditional British staples of lupins, roses, irises, alliums, phlox and salvias. Several ornamental grasses feature in the garden. There is a small collection of scented leaved pelargoniums.
A new white themed border contains foxgloves, thalictrum, white bergenia, a white rose and white perennial sweet pea, Cornus contraversa variagata, Cornus kousa and Bupleurum fruticosum.
There are some raised cut flower beds mainly for sweet peas and dahlias and some vegetables.
Several seating areas provide differing garden vistas and places for quiet refection. A large characterful restored Victorian greenhouse contains a few tender plants and is perfect for serving tea and cake.
