About Woodchester Park House
Woodchester Park House is a large Victorian Gothic building dating from around 1850. We bought the house in 1995 and set about building a garden. For much of the summer there is a mass of colour: we have herbaceous beds surrounding the lawn and further herbaceous beds on the walk round to our pond – these beds include a range of larger plants such as Tetrapanax, Rheum palmatum, Damera, Rodgersia and Gunnera. We have a small orchard with wildflower meadow and a pond. The pond is around 2 m deep in the centre, overlooked by a Belvedere, covered with water lilies and edged with plants such as Primula Candelabras, flag irises, Kingcups and Mimulus. Leading from the pond to the house is an avenue of yews. Adjoining the house there is a terrace with roses, Phormiums, Sanguisorbas and Sidalceas. Below the main lawn there is a vegetable garden and area for cutting flowers (including a number of rose beds). In the centre there is a woodland area with a range of shade loving plants and in late May a mass of alliums.
