About 17 Greenstone Mews
A tiny 15 foot slate paved oasis. The garden is primarily for relaxation by the owner and friends and used as an extra room particularly in the summer.
On one level with a small iron canopy able to overwinter tender plants. Seasonable vegetables, roses herbs and perennials grow in a raised bed. Use of reclaimed materials include driftwood and rope (mudlarked from the Thames). The reclaimed bath buried in the ground was a pond. It is now a bog garden and houses a family of newts.
The new Strawberry tree is growing to replace the one that suddenly died – the trunk has been clothed by a Graham Thomas honeysuckle and a climbing rose. Climbers such as x Fatshedera lizei clothe the fences to provide a green backcloth all year.
A visit could provide encouragement with ideas for small city gardening with low maintenance. Harvested vegetables are runner beans, courgettes, aubergines, tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries, potatoes, numerous herbs and peppers. With very little flowerbed space available vegetables and herbs are grown in zinc buckets and hanging baskets. The microclimate encourages tender plants to survive for all year interest and winter perches for birds.
