About 262 Hatch Road
There is a large formal front garden with English lavender all encompassed by box hedging, lawns and a formal fountain. Close to the house is a Mediterranean courtyard in front of a well stocked garden room (not open). A side entrance leads onto a patio with borders, a pond and water feature.
The 1st lawn has a large greenhouse and opposite, a covered swing-seat. Behind the greenhouse there is a rose pergola. Next, a large pond with fish is surrounded by the exotic border complete with thatched gazebo. Wander through the blue Rajasthani doors and arch and there are vegetable and fruit beds along with 2 further greenhouses. Next, on the right, is the long border of blue and yellow planting; opposite this are the storage sheds, a ‘She Shed’ and a compost area. The garden is then divided by a red brick pergola with scented wisteria, roses, hydrangeas and other climbers. To finish, an alpine topped insect house is at one end.
Passing left through the moon gate is the oriental area complete with stream, lily pond and tea house. You will then pass through the ‘Yin and Yang’ borders of prairie planting. Beyond is a natural pond, picnic bench with spring and summer meadows in front of a small folly and fernery. Coming back up the left path with the fern border on the left is the ‘secret’ white garden. As you will see Liz has given much effort and time to finding rare and unusual plants to enhance her garden.
Over time we have added several new features including sculpture, borders, gazebo and some other changes.
