About Alverton Cottage
The garden is part of a plot of about a third of an acre which includes a Regency house with earlier origins. The garden is in the town of Penzance and is large for a town garden. It is south facing and sheltered by mature trees including ash and beech. We have a very large monkey-puzzle tree and a holm oak and other trees of interest. Maps of the 1860s show a similar layout to the present design. We have been here for 11 years and are still making improvements to what had become a garden somewhat overgrown by bay and myrtle. The borders are bursting with plants and the pond, ferneries and wild-life areas continue to grow. It is a very sociable garden with areas to sit and relax and for children to play. Teas and cakes will be served from a wide South facing terrace.
Morrab Sub-tropical Gardens is near by and always open and well tended.
Both gardens are accessible via a short walk from the Penlee car park. Parking spaces can also be found nearby in Alexandra Rd and on Alverton Rd beyond the YMCA.
