Arnold Yoke

The garden is really a ½ acre 'room', bounded by a yew hedge to the South; an ivy 'wall' to the West; a rock garden to the North; and the house to the East. There is a paradise garden and pond in the middle, and profusely planted borders on the South and West sides. The planting aims for innovative combinations and follows a succession that yields colour from March to October.

About Arnold Yoke

The garden is divided by a long yew hedge, interspersed with conical hornbeams, which separates a small orchard (principally eating apples and crab apples) from the main part of the garden. To the N of the yew hedge is a long mixed border (70 by 10 feet), and in the centre of the garden is a four part ‘paradise garden’ with a water feature connecting to a square ornamental pond. Around the periphery of the garden is a collection of small trees (including striking Albizia and Myrtus luma), a small ‘white’ border, hydrangea border, and rock garden. Other key trees include common birches, canadian red oak, weeping willow, Liquidambar, Catalpa, Pawlownia, Tulip and Judas tree. The design of the garden complements the house, and the planting is designed to provide subtle colour combinations and successions that provide colour and interest from March to October.
