About Askew Cottage
The rear garden was designed to give year-round interest with several different areas connected with flowing curved paths. Beech and Yew hedges enclose the spaces, giving structure, and acting as a backdrop to areas of both shade and sun-loving planting. There will be abundant tulips for our spring openings, squirrels notwithstanding.
The loss of a central tree in 2018 gave an opportunity for some new sun-loving planting and this gives a long season of colour and interest with lavenders, Penstemon, lupins, Anthemis, roses, Sanguisorba Colchicum and Clematis flowering into the autumn. In other areas the planting has become more shade-tolerant as the trees at the boundaries mature.
We are also starting to replace some of the clipped Box with alternative species as the plants are now affected with Box Blight most years and this has changed the planting in some areas.
