Aulden Farm

Informal country garden, thankfully never at its Sunday best! Three acres planted with wildlife in mind. Emphasis on structure and form, with a hint of quirkiness, a garden to explore with eclectic planting. Irises thrive around a natural pond, shady beds and open borders, seats abound, feels mature but ever evolving. Our own ice cream and home-burnt cakes, Lemon Chisel a speciality.

About Aulden Farm

Come and enjoy our eclectic and rather idiosyncratic garden. It is informally planted with wildlife in mind and extends to some 3 acres. In 1997 it was a barren site with a few old orchard trees and a magnificent ash. Now numerous nooks and crannies abound and the ash stands proudly in its own space looking over the fields towards Clee Hill.

An amelanchier circle and a wisp of silver birch complete this area. The soil is typical heavy Herefordshire clay so the natural pond is literally a hole dug in the ground! It is now full of lush planting, teaming with wildlife, surrounded by a collection of beardless iris and other moisture lovers. A bridge crosses the dry stream which is planted with ferns, iris and hostas. There are several intimate areas to enjoy and explore including a shady loop with plenty of foliage contrast. All the work in the garden is done by ourselves, but often Nature can lend a welcome hand.
