About Beck House
Originally a windswept sloping plot with just a scrubby lawn and a few young trees. The 2.5 acre garden has been created over the last 40 years by Donal and Tory. Hedges and shrubs have been planted to create different ‘rooms’ and areas of interest.
Entering the garden from the drive through a yew hedge topped with topiary animal figures one enters a lawn bordered by mixed herbaceous and shrub borders with many late flowering perennials. Other areas around the house are a rose parterre with some mixed perennials, a white garden, a courtyard garden with hot coloured beds, and a herb garden.
A second large lawn is bordered on two sides by herbaceous perennial beds. Behind one of these borders is the yew topiary avenue leading to the round dahlia garden with pond. A working vegetable garden and greenhouse is framed on one side by the pergola walk covered with roses and clematises and on a second side by a walkway with box balls, dahlias and verbena. This leads , through oak gates to the woodland garden (started four years ago) with varied shady planting, shrubs and perennials.
