About Belmont
The gardens at Belmont House allow an escape to tranquillity, the peaceful setting is surrounded by parkland grazed by cattle and Romney marsh sheep. The garden layout dates from the 1970s however much of the planting would have been carried out over the last two centuries. The walled garden provides continual interest due to a variety of annual and perennial planting. The borders are full with climbers, the Wisteria covers the walls and the more formal rose bed adds colour in the right season.
Successive Harris generations have created a pinetum adjacent to the formal walled garden where trees have been planted to commemorate family events resulting in a collection of a variety of trees including Blue Atlas Cedar, Brewer Spruce and Mexican White Pine.
The large kitchen garden was restored in 2001 to a design by Lady Arabella Lennox-Boyd. Features include a range of fruit trees, vegetables, flowers and of course the large Victorian greenhouse.
