About Berkeley Castle

There have been gardens on the slopes below Berkeley Castle for many centuries. The current owner, Mr Charles Berkeley, is the great, great-nephew of the great horticulturist Miss Ellen Willmot. His father Mr John Berkeley was a keen and knowledgeable gardener. He has introduced many choice and unusual trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants into the existing framework (Gertrude Jekyll was a friend of the family), including tender plants not often found this far north. Towering magnolias, spires of pink and blue echiums and swathes of climbing roses are just some of the highlights of the garden.
