About Bollin House
The meadow, which slopes down towards the River Bollin, was in agricultural use until 15years ago when we started the difficult task of converting it into a perennial wildflower meadow. It is a constant battle with the tough agricultural grasses, docks etc. but with a fertiliser ban and hand weeding plus annual cutting and removal of grass,we are winning the battle and have been rewarded with the spontaneous appearance of many wild flowers eg. birds foot trefoil, sorrell, knapweed, campion, self heal, ragged robin, vetch and more. We have also, at the third attempt, managed to introduce yellow rattle which, being semi parasitic on grass roots, has been very helpful in controlling agricultural grass. Orchids appeared for the first time 4 years ago which, for us, was a validation of our efforts. It is a real pleasure to sit on a bench, deep in the meadow, on a sunny day and see and hear the wildlife humming around you.

Bollin House is in an idyllic location with the garden, orchard and meadow dropping into the Bollin valley. The River Bollin flows along this valley and on the opp side the fields lead up to views of Alderley Edge.
