About Cherry Tree Barn

The Garden was started by ourselves 20 years ago, originally a field being built on what started life as a farm yard and slurry pit, most of which is still under the ground!

It has been planted out with a variety of trees and shrubs providing all year round interest, offering something for every season. This has meant we now have a huge number and variety of bird visitors daily including nesting Swallows in the summer months

There are two ponds and a bog garden including a stumpery which were created to make the most of what was an area that often became waterlogged in the winter. This now offers a range of hostas and other plants such as Ligularia, Irises, Primulas, Ferns and Gunnera, creating a wonderful wildlife habitat. This area also offers a summer house nestling amongst the trees providing a relaxing area to sit and enjoy this part of the garden.

The main garden has two Azalea beds and a small woodland area with Rhododendrons. There is also a rose bed containing a selection of roses all chosen for their beautiful scent.

There are a number of herbaceous perennial beds filled with a huge variety of plants ensuring colour and food for pollinators from spring onwards. This is accompanied every year by hundreds of home grown annuals, ensuring a riot of colour straight through to the frosts. Your journey through the garden will take you through rose and honeysuckle covered arches and includes several areas to sit and take in your surroundings.

A new gravel garden has been created to make the most of the drive closest to the house, offering more colour and food for pollinators throughout the spring and summer.

To the rear is a smaller garden area and woodland. The garden has raised beds, mainly for cut flowers with a few vegetables and a greenhouse. There is also a small area to lawn to sit and enjoy the wonderful views that this rear elevation offers. The rear woodland is unfortunately not accessible to visitors due to the steep decent.
