About Clemley House
The garden contains herbaceous borders with shrubs, roses and ornamental trees as well as annuals and wildflowers to provide colour and support wildlife on a year round basis. As well as providing many nesting and roosting boxes for birds and bats, berries, hips and seed heads are left on all plants, especially in the meadow & hedges, over winter, attracting flocks of feeding Goldfinches etc later in the year.. Great Created Newts breed in the ponds and the site is on a registered ‘Amphibian Crossing’ with both the charity Froglife and the Highways Agency. Undisturbed log, brash and rock piles as well as “bee hotels” provide shelter for wildlife.
Informative signs explaining wildlife gardening features and no-dig, easy organic gardening methods are on display as are tips to prevent slug & snail problems humanely. Short talks are available during opening.
There are many seating areas and the levels are mostly flat on grass and gravel.
Refreshments served are all plant based.
