About Cultivate Community Garden
The Newtown community garden was started in 2012 and is managed by Cultivate, which is dedicated to supporting a resilient local food economy.
We support our community by nurturing local businesses, promoting sustainable land management and connecting people to local food.
Passionate about people & plants, growing & gathering, cooking & community.
Apart from a few mature trees, the site was mostly rough grassland – nearly all of what you see has been developed in the last 12 years. Volunteers help to maintain the garden, and grow fruit and vegetables that are used on site for community meals and shared lunches – you can be sure that the ingredients in your tea and cake will be sourced as locally as possible.
There are also 50 ‘micro-allotments’ (1.2 x 4m plots) and 11 larger plots used by local people, schools and community organisations, plus communal spaces that all can enjoy. Cultivate hope everyone is inspired by the garden, and to take the idea of grow-your-own home with them.
Cultivate share the site with several other social enterprises including a bike workshop and community carpentry workshop, and the overall site is managed by Circular Economy mid Wales.
