About Fairfield
Fairfield is a 2-acre plot set in a lovely valley on the edge of the Abbotskerswell and developed over the past 10 years. Parking for all the open gardens is in one field. We always have a tractor on hand for wet weather parking.
Another field was planted up in 2006/7 with a small copse, and an arboretum with 80 non- native species including eucalyptus, embothrium, davidia and many other interesting specimens. 2009 saw the addition of a small orchard, more eucalyptus and a birch grove. The trees are set among winding grass pathways and wildflower areas. Down the edge of one field a bog garden has been developed which has candelabra primula, irises, rodgersia, astrantia and astilbe.
The walled garden round the house has herbaceous borders in cottage style and in May/June is a blend of foxgloves, delphinium, lupins, peonies etc.
Three rose ropes edge the driveway with 18 different climbing roses. A field barn is in the process of being covered by 6 different rambler roses.
A hay meadow is under development.
