About Gelli Uchaf
Our garden of about 1½ acres has been created over the 30 years that we have owned and restored our previously derelict Welsh longhouse. It is at the centre of a working smallholding 800 feet above sea level with wonderful views. The garden has several distinct areas around the stone and slate buildings, each with its own character and planting theme. It has been created to complement its setting, act as a haven for wildlife, and our honey bee colonies.
We have collections of several favourite plants & we particularly like incorporating native plants into planting schemes; we follow a mainly organic approach. We plan for year-round flower interest, from hundreds of thousands of snowdrops (over 250 cultivars & unique Welsh Snowdrop Collection), crocus, cyclamen, daffodils and many other bulbs in spring, rhododendrons, skimmias, clematis, rambling roses, hydrangeas and autumn flowering perennials. There is something new to see each year, we now have more woodland plantings and a unique shepherd’s hut to enjoy the extensive views.
We are fascinated by the diversity of garden insects in addition to the butterflies, bumble and honey bees (we now have on-site hives) that visit our garden and those in our increasingly wildflower & fungi-rich meadows through which visitors can walk. A few plants for sale.
