About Hartside Nursery Garden
The Garden here in the North Pennines was originally established in the 1970’s. Recent developments have seen the building and planting of a crevice garden, more raised beds and a tufa wall. Situated at an altitude of over 1000 feet above sea level the garden includes a wide range of mountain plants from around the world. Specialising in a wide range of Primulas, Saxifrages, Woodland Plants including Erytrhoniums, Trilliums and a collection of Ferns plus a wide range of summer flowering Roscoeas.
All the plants grown here have to be very hardy. The flowering season starts with a good selection of Snowdrops in the spring alongside other early flowering bulbs and continues through the year with a wide range of less common plants and as the season approaches autumn the garden includes a range of Autumn Flowering Asiatic Gentians, Japanese Saxifrages and the last of the species of Roscoeas.
