About Huntington Grange
Nestled in the village of Huntington, just outside York, Huntington Grange is a charming 1-acre garden encircling our historic Georgian farmhouse, a former working farmstead we’ve called home for five years.
As keen amateur gardeners, we’ve spent the last three years transforming our garden into a series of inviting rooms, each with its own unique vibe, from serene hideaways to areas that reflect its rustic roots. Our garden is still very much a work in progress, but it will allow visitors a glimpse into our vision.
Blending classic English style with sustainable touches like composting and native plants, it’s a place where wildlife can thrive and surprises await around every curve.
Venture northeast to uncover a natural clay-lined pond, its edges alive with marginal plants and waterlilies, encouraging wildlife. Nearby, tempting soft fruit bushes promise summer picks, while raised beds in the veg and cut flower garden provide fresh harvests, whilst ensuring vibrant colours.
Further on, an area of fruit and nut trees turns into a wildflower meadow in season, providing habitat for bees and butterflies, and space for our chickens to roam.
The journey culminates in the formal back garden, an ‘Epic Journey’ through interconnected rooms blending elegance and charm. Winding gravel paths draw you around the garden and through moon gates framing different views of the garden and house, amid a cottage planting scheme.
Zones include a patio with a water feature, a spiralling gravel nook, winter-interest borders, benches at intriguing junctions, and a shady retreat for relaxation.
Back at the house, a patio framed by a parterre offers al fresco dining with lawn views. The fragrant rose garden with gravel paths winds around roses, their colours ranging from deep crimson to soft blush and cream.
Explore this evolving oasis, whether you’re after gardening ideas, a peaceful stroll, or a chat over a cup of tea and a slice of cake.
