About King John's Garden
King John’s Garden is a secret small walled garden hidden away in the centre of Romsey behind the historic mediaeval King John’s House. Entering over an oak bridge crossing a small stream the visitor is greeted by an extravagance of soft colours and a great sense of tranquillity. The path ahead with its tantalising view of Romsey Abbey leads to several small gardens planted with pre 18th century plants, a small rock garden with a fountain, and finally a Victorian style raised bed. Arches festooned with climbers, roses and clematis abound, link all to one another. Here and there oak benches provide seating for those who want to relax and enjoy their surroundings. The rest of the garden opens out into a fountain courtyard, the walls provide support for a variety of grape vines and a small wild flower meadow and apple orchard provide spring colour.
