About Lower Coombe Cottage
A largely traditional country garden surrounding a thatched 17th century cottage with Bitton Brook defining its eastern boundary and bringing increased wildlife into the garden. A stepped path leading from the front gate leads you through the south-facing front garden offering a range of unusual trees and shrubs, traditional roses and cottage garden perennials among the newly-created coastal planting. Additional exotics including echiums, yuccas and a giant yellow cassia covering the front elevation. A water feature to the front of the cottage leads to decking overhanging the brook and a bridge leading to a steeply banked area. Passage through the cottage’s Garden Room, filled with exotics and orchids, leads to the rear Mediterranean-styled garden with a mature olive tree and steps leading to a sun terrace and cut-flower plot and greenhouse with further steps down to the stream. Turning right at the entrance to the garden leads along a path towards a greenhouse filled with tomatoes leading further to the drive, potting shed, and a small potager and wood store.
