About Oakdene

The garden at Oakdene in the Isle of Wight village of Rookley is a mixture of vegetable plots, flower beds and lawns. There is an orchard that is home to a variety of wildflowers during the seasons and occasional visits from red squirrels. There is a pond with goldfish, newts and frogs. There is an apiary and two glasshouses. Two trellises supporting Seagull roses are particularly attractive at certain times of the year. In 2020 it was the winner of a local “Best Garden” award.
The house was built during the 1840s and there are handwritten documents going back to the original purchase of the land in October 1845.
