About Old Farm Cottage

The south side has roses surrounded by formal box hedges, and terraced beds rising up a slope. This leads to an orchard area with ornamental cherries, fruit trees including three loquats and a medlar, a double line of ginkgos grown from seed, hazel and walnut trees. To one side vegetables are grown in raised beds.

An area of native woodland was planted about 25 years ago: ash, oak, Scots pine, spindle and maple. A further area was planted more recently: rowan, silver birch, hornbeam and lime. A large old pond has become a reedy wetland, and the present owners have created in stages an extensive area of wildflower meadow.
