About Palatine, 6 Bamfords Fold
I moved into the picturesque village of Bretherton in 2019. Although the village is centuries old, Palatine is a modern bungalow and I inherited blank canvases as far as garden space was concerned. There was a large lawn on one side of the property and a paved area with a lonely conifer on the other. The first task was the installation of 2 colour themed herbaceous borders. Over the following winter the hard landscaping was completed and the pond was installed. There are now 3 contrasting spaces, each completely different. The front lawn has disappeared, replaced with beds of tall perennials separated by gravel paths. The rear garden has a traditional feel with a wildlife pond and mixed borders providing year round interest. The final garden space is a total contrast and the paved area is now a box parterre with an established cloud pruned conifer at the centre of beds of roses and other perennials.
It is fascinating watching the garden develop and change with the seasons.
