About Plas Dinam
Plas Dinam once the home of Lord Davies and still owned by his descendants, set in 12 acres of gardens, lawns and woodland surrounded by rolling hills and spectacular views of the Severn valley.
At the back of the house grey stone terraces at descending levels, lead down to sheltered borders where tender plants such as the evergreen Carpenteria californica with its large fragrant white flowers and a gorgeous scarlet lobelia are thriving. At the other side of the lawn rich autumn colour comes from shrubs, particularly the Cotinus “Grace” with purple leaves which turn a brilliant translucent red in late autumn. Superb wildflower meadow that stretches in front of the house. The ground has not been fertilised since the Second World War and has been cut as a meadow for thirty years. It now contains thirty six species of flowers and grasses including hundreds of wild orchids in spring and yellow rattle and scabious later on. There are magnificent groupings of trees including Parrotias which turn fiery red in autumn, two fine tulip trees (Liriodendrons) as well as deodar cedars and other spruces. Beyond the wildflower meadow lies the millennium wood which changes to a scalloped ribbon of buffs and ochres and has its own woodland walk. There are many remarkable trees, whcih include 8 Powys champions, 3 of which are Welsh champions and one a British champion!
