Rudding Park

Rudding Park offers a landscape shaped over centuries. Influenced by C18 designer Humphry Repton, the grounds reflect his signature balance of natural beauty and considered design. His use of the ‘ha-ha’ created uninterrupted views from the house, while features such as the ornamental lake act as focal points within the landscape. Once part of the Forest of Knaresborough and a royal hunting ground for Henry VIII, the grounds are steeped in history, with a 700 year old hollow oak tree still standing today. Later additions by James Russell introduced rhododendrons, which bring vibrant colour to the gardens each spring.

About Rudding Park

Today, the gardens remain central, the Kitchen Garden is the most recent evolution – developed in recent years by Matthew Wilson. Seasonal tours led by Head Gardener Sarah Owen-Hughes and her gardens team offer insight into both the historic landscape and its modern-day stewardship, from Repton’s original vision through to the working garden of today. Within the Kitchen Garden, Head Kitchen Gardener Emma Pugh and her team grow produce for FIFTY TWO – Rudding Park’s Michelin-starred restaurant, named after the fifty-two raised beds. Beyond this, the gardens extend to alfresco dining on the Clocktower terrace and the award-winning Roof Top Spa & Garden. The grounds also provide a natural backdrop for weddings and events, with highlights such as the wisteria on Jupiter Terrace offering a ‘must-see’ moment in bloom.
