Smallwood Farmhouse

The garden is a combination of traditional cottage planting and contemporary styles. At its heart, a C16 farmhouse provides the backdrop to a number of old English roses, a profusion of clematis and honeysuckle, and a variety of perennials. There are two natural ponds, a Mediterranean garden and productive kitchen garden, whilst paths meander through an area of ancient meadow.

About Smallwood Farmhouse

A well-established, traditional English cottage garden. The current owners, Philip and Catherine Doe, have inherited a wealth of carefully planned features and natural planting. The meadow with seasonal wild flowers such as cowslips, cow parsley and ox-eye daisies, and borders where plants are allowed to seed and flourish, contrast with more formal areas. New planting and areas under development can be observed, alongside existing and well-established flora and fauna. Visitors are invited to sit and enjoy the seclusion and tranquillity that remain characteristic of the garden’s innate charm.
