About Stable Cottage
Garden is about one third of and acre in total and is subdivided into discrete styles, under a constant state of development as the owners have only been working on the garden for 12 years.
The drive is lined with beds containing miscanthus and persicaria. To the rear is a patio with a Japanese courtyard theme, stone lantern and water feature as well as display areas with bonsai: best seen in the spring or autumn.
A trough water feature has been added beside the scented garden with roses and phlox dominating, arches of roses and wisteria under-planted with alliums, campanulas and persicaria; pots of tulips in the spring add colour, with roses in pots for the summer.
There is a small orchard with a mini wildlife meadow, under-planted with bulbs including daffodils, camassias and fritillaries and a new shady border with hellebores.
To the front are beds with a coastal theme, including grasses and many plants in pots notably maples and agapanthus, also a lawn area with island beds of mixed planting including cherry trees. A dry stream forms the basis of a Japanese garden. Finally there is a small kitchen garden with raised beds.
