About The Hidden Garden
The original garden was planted in the 90’s and then unfortunately left to become wild. Five years ago we decided to clear the scrub and add to the existing plantings, hoping to create interest throughout the year.
Starting with drifts of snowdrops, rare celandines and masses of hellebores for winter interest. These are followed by daffodils and narcissus both tall and dwarf varieties, and azaleas, pieris and other shrubs for spring colour.
Summer is greeted with a collection of hydrangeas of all types including serratas, macrophyllas and paniculatas with many other rare forms.
Finally autumn is heralded in with superb autumn colours, from acers to euonymus and beyond. The garden is an informal woodland garden with extensive plantings to complement the existing natural trees and shrubs.
With a large nursery adjoining it, the stock beds of many plants are open to viewing, in fact the approach to the garden takes you through them. A wildlife area of semi-prairie planting and a superb willow structure are also present.
Once in the garden there are numerous paths leading to, amongst others, a small lake with many ducks in residence, the ‘Hobbit House’ and adjoining large stumpery, the acer and hydrangea grove, several woodland walks and lots of places to sit and enjoy the serenity of the area. The garden is still young and evolving, being added to constantly. Areas are left semi wild so as not to over manicure what is a beautiful setting.
