About The Hymns
Set just north of the Four Stones, pre-historic standing stones, there are mown walk ways to carefully placed garden sculptures and benches, with views to the hills and the ancient village of Old Radnor, where Alfred Watkins evolved his thoughts of Ley-lines. The Hymns has inspired several artists, the work of whom can be seen in the barn. It reflects the County motto : ‘Powys Paradwys Cymru’, ‘Powys – the paradise of Wales’. See garden website for detailed information
This year the garden opening is timed to co-incide with an exhibition of 19 local artists, themed ‘Let Nature Be Your Teacher’, as part of Herefordshire Art Week. Botanical art classes, a local history talk, and evening dinner in the garden or exhibition are all taking place and open to NGS visitors, available to book via www.radnorshireartists.com. A proportion of the accompanying art event proceeds will be donated to the National Garden Scheme as well.
The jubilee orchard, tree plantings and honeysuckle and Rosa Rugosa filled hedgerows planted in recent years are maturing nicely – plants will be for sale including oak and sycamore saplings, and others.
Gardening books, gardening utensils, vases etc will also be available for sale, and visitors are welcome to pick lavender, or purchase lavender products by nearby Farmers Welsh Lavender.
