About The Limes
Set within a stunning landscape, the contemporary gardens at The Limes offer both breathtaking views and a sense of refined design. With a French-inspired feel, the gardens are thoughtfully arranged into a series of distinct areas, each defined by its own planting palette and separated by dry stone walls, pleached trees, and clipped yew hedging.
Visitors can explore a wide variety of spaces: the naturalistic prairie planting, Ben Preston’s innovative gravel garden, a long walk framed with views, and a vibrant wildflower meadow alive with pollinators. There is also a tranquil pond, a shaded woodland garden, and productive areas including a vegetable plot, orchard, and cut flower beds. For leisure, the gardens feature a croquet lawn, pétanque pitch, and multiple dining and seating areas that invite visitors to pause and enjoy the surroundings.
Planting throughout emphasises drought-tolerant species and benefits from the structure of mature trees. Striking sculptures by artist Pete Carling are carefully placed to add depth, drama, and contemporary interest.
After a wander, visitors can relax with refreshments in the art gallery café, in the wildflower meadow.
