About The Rock House
Rock House sits in about an acre on a hillside at 1000ft, with sweeping views over the Radnorshire Hills and Ithon Valley. It has been transformed over the last 30 years from a rocky clay-covered field with grazing cows to a relaxing and nurturing space with hardy plants, bog garden, dry shady ‘woodland’ border, a raised pond, laburnum arch, a grazed bluebell meadow, a relatively new fernery and recently revamped veg garden. Gardening high upon a windy Welsh hillside means we battle with nature and the elements. We learned the hard way to bolt our enormous greenhouse to some sturdy sleepers and we have a full time job not to share the fruit and vegetables with slugs, rodents, moles, rabbits and birds!
There are many seats around the garden – from small hidden places for two to more formal decking areas which take advantage of the views of the surrounding countryside. The most popular is the raised deck in front of the Cwtch, our garden retreat, which catches the last rays of evening sun. After 30 years we finally feel the garden has settled into the space so we hope you’ll enjoy it too when you visit.
