About Upwater Lodge

There are many borders filled with forget-me-nots in May, but planted with succession in mind. Gigantic wisterias on the house should be in full bloom. The woodland area is constantly expanding and the understory changes. Longer periods of flooding in the water meadow in winter are expanding and extending the flooded areas leading to almost instant and welcome changes in flora. ( The rare breed sheep(Soays), kept for conservation grazing on the water meadow , now need new winter quarters!) Fauna is extensive with water birds, foxes, muntjac deer and sometimes nesting kestrels and swans. Now badgers and visiting storks too. Despite a burgeoning wildflower meadow, turf maintenance is a special interest of the owners who also have fine lawns, a grass tennis court, love mowers and do nearly all the maintenance themselves.
