About Warndon Court
Warndon Court is a 2 acre family garden, developed since 2008, surrounding the historic Grade II listed farmhouse. The circular walk begins with topiary on the front lawn (including a yew-dragon who sometimes dresses up as The Gruffalo!), then on to the pergola terrace with wisteria concealing the modern greenhouse and a number of stone troughs. Go past the bug hotel and down through the secret garden which leads to the wildlife area. The recently restored wildlife pond is home to great crested and common newts. Go through the formal potager, with trained apple trees over arches, raised beds and rather blousy fig trees. Beyond the potager, we are still experimenting with the wildflower borders, which lead to the path through the dry moat, which is a woodland walk with a Gruffalo or nature trail for young children. The snowdrops feature in February then come hellebores, wild garlic and a smattering of bluebells. At the end of the moat path, wind up the bank, where there is a vigorous Kiftsgate rose, to the urn garden. A mixed border leads through stately gates to the West Wall Walk, with long borders featuring roses, peonies and lots of alliums. Turn left through the Italian Garden, a formal parterre of box hedging and Armillary Sphere, go left again to see the top fish pond, then follow past the breakfast terrace, shaded by a lovely Cercis Canadensis Forest Pansy, towards the Courtyard garden. Here are more seats, a knot garden and a pergola surrounding the courtyard to create a pretty welcome by the front door of the house. The summerhouse gallery on the top lawn houses an exhibition of original oils, watercolour paintings, cards and Rachel’s children’s books for sale.
Cream teas, sausage rolls and home made cakes. Hot and cold drinks available.
