About Wildwood
This year we celebrate 20 years of gardening at Wildwood. When we first fell in love with the house, we were inspired by the secret garden nature of the plot, with its overgrown borders and tangle of brambles. The bushes were full of birds and there were stag beetles on the loggia. Over time we have learnt to live with our wildlife and develop a haven which we can all share.
Throughout the garden you will find different places to sit or explore varied planting and leafy rooms with views. We hope you will visit and share our enjoyment of a garden which keeps on giving.
In June, beautiful roses perfume the air as they tumble from tall trees or weave their way through plants for pollinators. With over sixty varieties of old and new roses this is the perfect month to spot our favourites. Over the last 2 years we have been adding more ‘simple’ roses which support the bees.
A magnificent Magnolia grandiflora, with its huge lemon scented flowers, welcomes visitors to the lavender-edged front lawn. The raised shaded loggia to the rear offers a vista of pretty perennials, disappearing paths, colourful acers and mature fruit trees.
Described as ‘inspirational’ by Surrey Wildlife Trust, the garden is bordered by high holly hedges, which create a haven for birds, moths and butterflies. With waterlilies and flags, the pond is a well-established habitat for wildlife: frogs, damsel flies and newts. Our woodpiles and fernery provide a home for toads and stag beetles. Watch the robins, wrens and long-tailed tits in the dell from our summerhouse ‘hide’.
The rose tunnel leads to our potager, with its winding paths, box balls, clipped peacock, topiary chickens and raised beds edged with herbs and foxgloves. Coloured obelisks support organically grown fruit, flowers and vegetables for the house. You’ll also find a fruit frame, greenhouse, potting shed and organic composting areas. (Plus a tadpole nursery.) Catch the last rays of the sun and backlit flowers from the hidden swing.
There will be garden paintings on display.
Vintage teas are served on the lawn and there are plenty of sheltered seats to rest.
We are a short distance from Frimley Lodge canalside activities.
We regret access may be restricted by gravel paths.
