About 16 Langley Crescent
16 Langley Crescent in St Albans enjoys the views over the open fields around Batchwood Hall. It is a compact walled garden with a secluded section at the back for restful contemplation beside a wildlife pond surrounded by rambling roses. Herbaceous borders on the sides and by the terrace with an expanse of lawn in the middle. A half-moon shaped border is showcasing Jonathan’s interest in Phlomis. He hopes to hold a national collection of this plant genera one day. Jonathan’s interest in Phlomis has developed thanks to the beautiful architectural form and the plant’s resilience to drought. Also, it is very unusual to see other varieties of Phlomis than Phlomis russeliana in common use in private gardens. There is so much more to Phlomis than you may think, and it’s not always yellow flowers! Jonathan is also running a small local plant nursery called ‘Redmayne Perennials’ redmayneperennials.com that specialises in a range of reliable and more unusual herbaceous and woody perennials with an emphasis on species rather than cultivars. All propagated from seed or cuttings raised in Jonathan’s glasshouse at 16 Langley Crescent, or by division.
